The Day Mom Died

~ ~ ~ ~

I remember the day my mom died.
My brother called,
a choke in his voice,
and he said,
“Our mother is gone.”
The world had stopped and was silent,
and it started again with a bittersweet joy
because Mom was no longer caught in the nether-land
of dementia
but she was gone from us.
I couldn’t speak for a moment
and neither could he.
Our mom,
our dear sweet mom,
was gone.
There was nothing more to say.
Our mother was gone.

I miss her.

I love you, Mom.

What a lovely tribute. Losing our mother is hard. May you have many fond and wonderful memories.

Sherry - Thank you. Yes, it is probably the hardest loss in the world. The "orphan feeling" is tough. I have wonderful memories, but it never seems enough.

The memories don't seem to be enough. My mother has been gone 10 years and it still feels like yesterday that I would lift the phone to find her on the other end. And sometimes when the phone rings at a certain time of the day my mind plays tricks on me and I think it's her calling me. We still communicate and connect..the cord is cut but there is an invisible cord that stretches right through to heaven. Bless you sweetheart. You've had great loss lately and your heart is still healing.

Sherry - I understand what you say. Mom has been gone 7.5 years, and it is still hard to believe at times. Wanting to ask that one more question, have one more reassurance, see one more smile. We lost her even before that, however, to Alzheimer's and it is almost comforting to know she is no longer held in those clutches. I frequently feel her presence when I need it. And I find pennies on a regular basis. :') I'll post a poem about finding pennies. Stay tuned!

Lovely..I find many pennies too..and feathers which apparently mean the same thing!

I've hear that about feathers, but I don't often find them. Pennies seems to be in places that are "impossible," places I just looked yesterday! It always surprises me!
